The rental market in Nesher is roughly divided by topography—up and down. Up the mountain sits Ramot Yitzhak, the more sought-after and expensive neighborhood. It features newer, taller buildings, spacious apartments with balconies facing the view, parks (like the famous Nesher Park with its suspension bridges), and young families. Rent is higher there, but the value for money is great. Down in the valley, however, you'll find older neighborhoods like Tel Hanan and Ben Dor. The buildings there are older, the vibe is much more old-school neighborhood, and the prices are significantly lower. This area attracts lots of student roommates and young couples just starting out, though the momentum of urban renewal (Pinui-Binui projects) is already being strongly felt there too.

Getting around in Nesher has seen a major upgrade. Private cars still rule here—with Highway 75 and Bar Yehuda Way connecting you quickly to Haifa and main traffic arteries (Highway 6 and the north)—but public transportation has leapt forward. The Metronit runs through the lower part of the city, easily connecting it to Haifa and the Krayot, and there's also the "Rakavlit" (cable car) that flies students directly up to the Technion and University over the traffic jams. Just remember: this is a very mountainous city. If you're counting on getting around by bike or walking to do your shopping, you'd better be in really good shape, because steep climbs and stairs are just a regular part of life here.
